Default My African Grey Timneh

This is Alex my African Grey Timneh.

He is about 4-5 months in this picture so I need to take some recent pics of him or her. No no, I didn't choose the name Alex because of Alex the famous talking African grey believe it or not. I had no idea he even existed. My wife and I chose that name because its a unisex name. Eventually we plan on doing a dna test only because of our curiosity. He is about 11 months now and his favorite and only phrase is Yabadaba dooooo thanks to my wife. Im going to try and catch him on video doing it. Its real cute.

As of yesterday he started saying pretty, pretty, pretty again thanks to my wife. Did I ever mention that they are awesome sound mimickers? About a month ago I was here glued on the computer and all of a sudden I hear the phone beep. So I get up to go put it on the charger and I hear it again. It ended up being Alex mimicking that sound. I tell you these birds are amazing.

I've always wanted a bird but I've had no luck with the smaller versions. I have had parakeets twice that I got that have died on me within the month no matter what I've done. I would love to have a bird but it's not fair to the birds to risk it.

Birds require fresh food and water daily obviously. Also its good to toss in a couple of toys to keep them entertained. If they are going to be housed in a bird cage all day which most smaller birds are then should have a cage which will allow them to move freely. If not they could get stressed which means their health will deteriorate and they will eventually die. Also when you are purchaing birds from stores like pet land you never know what their health is going to be like.

I had a friend with this kind of bird and it always made me laugh. It would mimic a phone conversation (one-sided of course) from ring to the hang-up click. He could do the voices of both roommates; it was amazing how it could catch every inflection of their voices.

As of yesterday he has added another word to his vocabulary. I couldn't stop laughing. At first I wasn't sure what he was saying but eventually throughout the day he was saying it clearer. His new word is "Archie" which he definitely picked up from Edith on the tv show All in the family.

Ha! You need to take a video of him speaking someday and upload it for us to see. I'd love that. He sounds really entertaining.

What will you do if he picks up words you don't want him to??
